Each column is one run. The place is among the clients in that run, lowest first; within one display frame of the fastest counts as a tie. Runs are not comparable with each other.

Setting it up

Install

./mailbench install spool downloads the released Spool.dmg, from the same URL a person uses, into /Applications.

Add the benchmark account

Server 127.0.0.1, port 10143 (10144 for the 250k mailbox), no encryption, user bench@example.com, password bench.

  • ./mailbench account spool writes the account into a benchmark profile of its own (Spool honours XDG_CONFIG_HOME and XDG_DATA_HOME), so nothing here can touch real mail.
  • ./mailbench up spool launches Spool on that profile.

So it holds the whole mailbox

  • The account is written with initial_limit = 1000000. The default of 2,000 would sync a fraction of what the other clients sync.

For a first-sync measurement

  • Automatic: ./mailbench sync spool moves the profile's data aside (never deletes it) and launches Spool on an empty store.

Its window

27pt conversation rows, reader to the right of the list.
