Each column is one run. The place is among the clients in that run, lowest first; within one display frame of the fastest counts as a tie. Runs are not comparable with each other.

  • Search. MailMate searches when Return is pressed, not as you type, so its time includes the Return.
  • Store on disk. The whole MailMate support directory, which on a machine with other accounts includes them too.

Setting it up

Install

brew install --cask mailmate. The trial is fully functional.

Add the benchmark account

Server 127.0.0.1, port 10143 (10144 for the 250k mailbox), no encryption, user bench@example.com, password bench.

  • Settings ▸ Accounts ▸ +. Host 127.0.0.1, the corpus's port, Security None.

So it holds the whole mailbox

  • MailMate keeps full messages locally by default. Nothing to change.

For a first-sync measurement

  • Remove the Bench account in Settings ▸ Accounts and quit MailMate.
  • Press Enter here, then add the account again.

Its window

Default layout: the list is a band across the top (18pt rows) and the reader is below it. The main window's title always carries the mailbox name; a stray Return opens a message in a window of its own, which the harness closes.
